As an emerging market expert, Karla brings 20 years of experience in identifying opportunities in this challenging sector and developing and implementing strategies to successfully pursue them. Karla began her career in the banking sector in Mexico as a fixed income and derivatives trader at Banco Santander, where she also managed marketing. From there she moved to Cargill where, as a senior trader and risk manager, Karla coordinated logistics, pricing and marketing for local crops. With more than 10 years at Bunge, Karla has played many key roles such as developing the bulk and finished products oils product line, as well as optimization of the entire value chain including resource management efficiency. In 2007 she moved to Bunge’s Emissions Group where she held the Latin America regional manager position and led the global origination strategy and has been actively involved in projects that range from palm oil biogas energy to sustainable farming and energy efficiency projects in Africa and South East Asia.

With the acquisition of the sustainable asset manager Climate Change Capital she was appointed as BEM’s Commercial Director for Western Geographies including the U.S., Latin America, Europe,and Africa, bringing to bear her decades of experience in business development, commercial relationship management, and project origination to adapt BEM’s business to new opportunities beyond the carbon market such as impact investment and sustainable supply chain development.

Karla holds a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico and a Diploma in International Negotiations from the University of Georgetown, United States.
